Get the supplier’s delivery dimensions first

Find the sofa’s packaged or delivery dimensions and whether legs, arms, backs or modules are removable. Use the seller or manufacturer’s handling information rather than assuming the finished room dimensions tell you how it will arrive.

Map the full route to the room

Follow the delivery path from the building entrance to the final position. Include external doors, internal doors, corridors, stairs, landings, lifts and tight turns.

One narrow or angled point can determine the whole route.

A room outline labels three wall segments, a door opening and an uncertain dimension to recheck.

Measure openings at the constrained points

Record the clear opening that is actually available, not only the nominal door or frame size. Handles, fixed trim, handrails or other projections can reduce usable space.

Keep measurements tied to a specific location so the supplier can understand what they refer to.

Do not assume rotation will solve every problem

A sofa can sometimes pass diagonally or on end, but whether that is possible depends on the item’s shape, packaging and the surrounding space. Do not invent a delivery maneuver from room dimensions alone.

Where access is tight, share the measurements with the retailer or delivery provider and ask them to confirm the required clearance or procedure.

Check stairs, lifts and turns separately

A doorway may be wide enough while a stair landing or lift depth remains too small. Treat each constrained segment as its own check, especially where the item must change orientation.

Keep delivery fit separate from room fit

After confirming access, still check whether the sofa works in the intended position during normal use. The sofa-fit guide addresses the room itself, while the sectional guide covers larger modular footprints.

Resolve uncertainty before the delivery date

If one measurement or packaging detail is still uncertain, confirm it before ordering or before the delivery appointment. A confident guess is not a substitute for the supplier’s actual handling requirements.
